Write down everything you’d like to have in your garden. Engage all of the senses. What colors do you like? What kind of mood would you like to create? What will you be using the space for? You may need separate areas for relaxation, entertaining, growing vegetables and herbs, as well as a space for the kids to play or for the dog to run. How about a quiet shady corner to read a book? Cut out pictures from magazines that appeal to you. Do a little detective work. Ask yourself why the picture inspires you. Is it the perfect green lawn?

or a deck for a barbeque. Write it all down. No editing is necessary at this point. Even on a budget you can create the garden of your dreams. You can start as small as you’d like and add new features and plants every season.
