For A 12' x 12' Deck
John Conti
So, you've just completed construction of your 12' x 12' deck. (If not, click the link < free plans page> above) Now comes the fun part. The landscaping plan shown above will be an inviting and easy addition to your backyard. I've broken the process into simple steps. Make sure you read through all of the steps and understand them. After you have evaluated the process, you can edit the plan to suit your own needs.
Step 1. Starting in the lower left corner, dig out a circle that surrounds the corner. The circle can be larger or smaller than the one shown, just make sure it's not too small. We need
space for plants.
Step 2. Add a larger second circle to the upper left corner.
Step 3. Add a third circle to the upper right corner. This circle should be similar in size to the first for balance. Don't worry about perfection - it doesn't count here. Imperfect is better.
Step 4. Connect the three circles and dig out to the deck.
Step 5. In the bottom right corner, dig out an oval shaped bed. Imagine you have an egg shape and you stretch the front out. The back of it should meet with the circle in the top right. When you're finished it should look like a large footprint.
Step 6. Add dwarf trees or large bushes to the center of your top two circles. (one tree or bush in each circle) They will be in the back, so give them plenty of height. In the lower left corner, add a bush of medium height that allows you to still view the back row. Use something that grabs your attention like hydrangea.
