Embellish Your Outdoor Space By Gardening With Containers
Container Gardening
Container gardening is a hot topic for many reasons. Containers offer a simple, effective solution for many common gardening problems. Some of these problems include lack of space or soil, excessive maintenance requirements, seasonal restrictions or budget limitations
Containers are perfect for city living, rooftop gardens, concrete patios, front porches, entryways or for adding drama to existing beds. Whatever needs exist, there are tons of easy, innovative ways to add color, interest and value to your living environment by using pots, baskets and
window boxes.
Urban Gardening
Do you live in the city? Do you have more concrete surfaces than soil? I've been fortunate to enjoy incredible rooftop gardens in the middle of the city. Imagine climbing vines and planters creating solid walls of greenery. I lived in a city environment for twelve years. Every spring I dreamed of new ways to indulge my gardening urges.
I started by placing large urns on either side of my front door. Next, I added potted roses. Later I designed window boxes for every available window on the front of my house. I planted Geraniums, Vinca major, Portulaca and Nierembergia in the window boxes. I planted evergreens like Dwarf Alberta Spruce and Boxwood in the large urns flanking the front door. Year after year, within weeks of planting, brand new window boxes would spring up throughout the block. Urban gardening is contagious. It's a great way to revitalize a neighborhood. It's amazing how sterile sidewalks and simple brick and mortar buildings come alive with the addition of fresh greenery and flowers. To this day, I love to take long walks through the city to take in the historic architecture and urban gardens.
