Container Gardening Can Stretch Your Budget
Every spring I buy several evergreens to place in pots. I look for small, inexpensive varieties like Aborvitae, dwarf Alberta Spruce or a conical shaped Holly. Usually they can be found for 5-10 dollars. I place them in the center of my large pots and fill in around them with inexpensive annuals and small ivy plants.
Here's the great part, in the fall when the evergreens and ivy have doubled their size, I transplant them to other area in the yard. For years I've been filling the outer perimeter of the yard with evergreens for privacy. They love the high nutrient potting soil and grow quickly in the pots. All summer long my pots are overflowing with dense greenery and bright colored flowers.
